Custom Order Guidelines

Transformational Threads can arrange to turn your personal photographs into custom, one-of-a-kind artwork.


Selecting Images

Personal photographs of a favorite pet or other animal, your home or flower gardens, a family coat of arms, a memorable vacation spot, a still life, or any realistic setting, landscape, or scene of special significance to you may be considered for rendering into custom needlework.

Transformational Threads reserves the right to refuse requests for custom orders that involve images that are deemed inappropriate or that are, in Transformational Threads' or artisans' opinion, not suitable for rendering into high-quality embroidery (such as abstract images or portraiture).


Submitting Requests

For consideration, please write to: Transformational Threads, 2331 N. Glebe Rd., Arlington, VA 22207. Enclose a brief description of the image that you would like to have rendered in thread and indicate the image size desired; please also include a good-quality 8- x 10-inch (or larger) color photograph and a CD containing the same image in JPEG format (in lieu of a CD, you may e-mail the image), your regular mail and e-mail addresses, and any additional information that might be helpful to Transformational Threads in understanding and satisfying your needs.

Please Note: Printed photographs or digital images will be sent to the artisans in Vietnam who will create your custom thread painting; consequently, Transformational Threads cannot return these items to you. 

Transformational Threads will respond as promptly as possible to every inquiry. You will receive a price quote, an estimate of the time that it will take to create the artwork, and a custom order application that you will be asked to complete, sign, and return. Orders for custom needlework will not be placed until a completed custom order application and advance payment (by personal or certified check) are in hand.

Typically, four or more months may be required to produce a one-of-a-kind embroidery painting. Please keep this in mind if you are requesting custom artwork for gift-giving, fundraising, an awards recognition ceremony, or another special occasion or event.

In addition, no refunds or exchanges will be made once custom orders are placed.
 

Pricing

Pricing will be determined case by case, based on desired image size and overall size (16 x 20 inches, 20 x 24 inches, etc.), complexity of image and time required to create the artwork, use of special materials (such as silk instead of cotton cloth), desire for special matting (such as multiple archival mats or colored mats), and other client specifications.

Price quotes will not include charges for handling and shipment, which can only be determined when the finished piece is in hand.

In addition, price quotes will not include framing, which is not available through Transformational Threads.


Handling and Shipment

You will be notified promptly when your custom thread painting arrives and asked to pay in advance, by personal or certified check, handling and shipping charges. Delivery will be by UPS, unless other arrangements have been agreed-to and made in advance.
